2018 5th Grade Girls

Team Highlights

This Legends team, referred to as the Blue Team, returns to the court for what may be the final season for its many 8th grade players. The team returns all nine players from last year, and has added one new 8th grader. For many players, this is their 6th year with the Legends. The team will compete in the JMC Fall league, take a break for the middle school season, and then return for spring tournaments.

Emalia Wagner

Emalia Wagner returns for her third season with the Legends. She has developed into a powerful post player who can handle the ball and asserts herself on defense. Over her past two seasons she has 260 rebounds and 154 points.

Sophia La Porta

Sophia La Porta is an original team member, and returns for her 6th year. She missed most of last season with a knee injury but is hoping to return to the court this season. In her last full season she was third on her team in steals and blocked shots. She has more than 70 career assists.

#4 Guard

Ava Swanson

Ava "The Answer" Swanson is returning for her 5th season as a Legend. In her career she has played all five positions. She is looking to have a big season as an experienced guard. Ava is a defensive stalwart and superb ball handler and has almost 300 career rebounds.

Emalia had another strong year in her second year as a Legend. She was third on the team in scoring, 2nd in rebounds and 2nd in blocked shots. She hit two free throws to win the team’s first game of the year. She led the team in foul shooting percentage in the fall season. She had 30 rebounds and 24 points in the NEPA Flames Shootout. In the team’s final victory she had her best game: 10 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Sophia started the season with her usual aggressive play at the PG and off guard. Her season ended after three games due to an injury. She made a dramatic return in the NEPA shootout to throw an inbound pass to break the press. She is working out hard to return next season. She is an original team member, and completed her 5th season. Sophia was leading guards in rebounding when she was injured. Her best game came against Altoona when she had an assist and 3 rebounds.

The Answer developed from a defensive specialist to a well rounded player that played all three guard positions. She finished the year 4th in scoring, 4th in assists and 3rd in three pointers. She led the team in steals. She had a game high 11 points. She led the team in scoring in the Lewistown tournament. She had 19 points and 21 rebounds in the NEPA Flames shootout.

2015-16 Highlights

Ava “The Answer” Swanson completed her 3rd year as a Legend. Emerged as a PG as the season progressed. She was a defensive specialist and often drew the opponent’s best scorer as a defensive assignment. Was second on the team in steals (45) and had 65 rebounds from the guard position.

2015-16 Highlights

Emalia was a 1st year player. She finished second on the team in rebounds (200) and offensive rebounds (112). Best game was in Scranton shootout with 13 points and 22 rebounds. Developed into a force in the winter St. Rose league where she was 3rd on the team in scoring.

Sophia completed her 4th year as a Legend. She was third on the team in assists (29) and blocked shots (17). Played mostly at the 3-guard and PG and served as a steady playmaker and defensive stalwart. Had season high 5 assists in one game. Hit huge shot in OT against St. Rose to seal a victory.

Liv Salazer

Liv is playing in her third season as a Legend. She has played up for two years and plays all five positions. She is a dynamic player on defense and offense. She will play primarily at guard this season. Over her two year career she has 529 points, 657 rebounds and 206 steals.

Rayna Fischer

Rayna is playing in her 4th year as a Legend. She has played up for three years. She is a constant scoring threat on drives and long range shots. For her career she has almost 700 points and 26 three pointers.

Rosi Tsarnakov

Rosi is joining the Legends for her first season.

Liv played up on the 7th grade team and had a strong season. Playing guard, she was third on the team in assists and led the team with a 32% shooting percentage from the field. She played strong defense and provided very active play on the boards. She was second on the team in steals in the Fall season. For her combined two teams she scored over 390 points.

2015-16 Highlights

Liv joined the 6th grade team as a part timer in the winter season, but earned full-time status with her strong play. Had 65 rebounds while playing mostly guard. Led guards in rebounding in the St. Rose league.

Rayna played up on the 7th grade team and led the team in scoring and was second in steals. She was 7-13 (54%) from three point range. She led the team with 36 points in the 3 game Philipsburg Shootout. Her highest scoring game was 15 points. She was a constant outside threat that expanded her game this year with improved passing and driving. For her combined two teams she scored over 400 points.

Rayna completed her 2nd year as a Legend and played on the 6th grade team as a 5th grader. She was 3rd on the team in scoring (146 points), second in foul shooting percentage, and tie for third in 3 pointers. Had 13 points in one game in Scranton shootout.

Rachel Fatula

Sugar Ray is one of the original Legends on this team, and is starting her 6th season. She is know for her slick ball handling and long range shooting. In her career she has over 300 points and100 assists, and has 29 three pointers.

Rachel Peachey

Peachey, is the team captain and an original Legend. She is starting her 6th season as the primary point guard and is known for her playmaking. In her career she has almost 350 points and 150 assists.

Nicole Egan

Nicole returns for her second season on the Legends. Nicole has made big strides in the off season and is looking to contribute in the paint both on the boards and on defense.

2016-17

Nicole joined the Legends in the fall and was gained playing time each week. She was set back by an injury but was back to full form by the NEPA shootout. She saved her best for last, playing her strongest game in the team’s final victory in which she grabbed 3 rebounds and played tough interior defense. She also had a strong Philipsburg shootout finishing with 5 rebounds.

Sugar Ray completed her 5th year as a Legend, and had another strong season. She led the team lead in assists (28) and led the team in 3 pointers. She also led all guards in rebounding. She played exceptionally well in the NEPA Shootout where she was 5-14 from three point range and had 9 assists in 4 games. Had a season high 9 points in one game.

Rachel “Sugar Ray” Fatula completed her 4th year as a Legend. She was second on the team in scoring (140 points), first in 3 pointers, second in assists and led all guards with 92 rebounds. Also led the team in foul shooting percentage. Had 13 points in a game twice.

Rachel completed her 5th year as a Legend. She is the team captain. She is a selfless point guard who does whatever it takes to win. She led the team in assists in the fall season (22), and was second on the team in foul shooting percentage. She led the team in scoring and assists in the Lewistown tournament. Scored a game high 10 points.

2015-16 Highlights

Rachel completed her 4th year as a Legend as was the starting PG. She led the team in assists (49), was second in blocked shots (19), and was second on the team in three pointers. She had 70 rebounds from the PG position. Had steal with 4 seconds to go and made an end-to-end layup at the buzzer to win game at St. Rose.

Mya McElhinney

Mighty Mac returns for her 5th year as a Legend. She is a dynamic post that can handle to ball as well as many guards. She is a force with the ball. In her career she has 528 rebounds and over 320 points.

2016-17

Mighty Mac completed her 4th year as a Legend. She was second on the team in scoring, and led the team in rebounding (117) and was third in steals. Had a game high 16 points. Best game came in the NEPA Shootout when she had 14 points and 13 rebounds in a Legends victory. Had 50 rebounds in the 4 game shootout. Mya combines power and slick moves to play a dynamic post position.

Mya “Mighty Mac” McElhinney completed her third year with the Legends. She led the team in offensive (122), defensive (145) and total rebounds (267) and scoring (187 points). She also led the team in free throws attempted (172) and made. She had 16 points in a victory in Scranton
